Do you work with veterans or others suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury? Then this in-depth, full-day session is for you.

Anyone can get PTSD at any age. This includes war veterans and survivors of physical and sexual assault, abuse, accidents, disasters, and many other serious events. Traumatic Brain Injury will almost certainly result in PTSD. But not everyone with PTSD has been through a dangerous event. Some people get PTSD after a friend or family member experiences danger or is harmed. The sudden, unexpected death of a loved one can also cause PTSD.

Unlike physical wounds, these conditions affect your mood, thoughts, and behavior and are often invisible to others. Trauma results when overwhelmingly stressful events shatter your sense of security, making you feel helpless and vulnerable.

Participants will learn understandable and immediately useful information regarding:

  • symptoms and underlying physical causes of PTSD and TBI;
  • what Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain injuries can do to important areas of our lives;
  • how the combination of the two can affect victims;
  • methods and resources for healing;
  • the underlying neurobiology of PTSD, C-PTSD, Inherited Trauma, and mTBI; and
  • the mechanisms of vicarious trauma in the family unit as well as among those in the helping fields.
Participants will leave with the ability to assess for PTSD, C-PTSD, and mTBI, as well as the most current available treatments.

Recent studies say that as many as 30% of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan may have sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and that 20% have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). 59% of veterans who sustained a physical injury in these conflicts also have a mental health diagnosis.
