After the tremendous response to our introductory session on this subject in March 2015, we are conducting an in-depth session and added a third presenter with deep experience in this area.Human trafficking is a horror that many consider a problem of the past, or at least one external to the United States. Unfortunately, in today's globalized society, the problems of human trafficking are embedded in various aspects of our daily lives in ways that we may not be aware of – taking on new forms and presenting new challenges for human-rights defenders worldwide.
Kelli Malcolm, Esq.
Kelli is a licensed attorney in both New York and Colorado. For over ten years, she has worked with abused and neglected children in the metro area and is qualified as an expert in child welfare issues. She is part of the Arapahoe County Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force, the founder of Justice Ministries, and a member of the Justice Coalition Network. Her work in human trafficking focuses on getting "upstream" to eliminate the traffickers products and places of business.Sandy Naatz, MC, LPCSandy Naatz, is currently a Program Specialist for the Administration for Children and Families, Health and Human Services Region VIII. In this capacity, Sandy currently conducts outreach, throughout the region, regarding ACF Special Initiatives including: Human Trafficking, Fatherhood, Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education, Domestic Violence, and ASSET building. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Colorado and holds a National Certification from the National Board of Certified Counselors.In addition to being a Fatherhood and Relationship Educator, Sandy brings twelve years of full time professional experience in the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence field, during which time she was a Therapist, and Director of Crisis Intervention and Advocacy, at the Center Against Sexual Abuse in Phoenix, AZ; and, a Coordinator for the Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention Program at Arizona State University. She joined ACF in 2007 and is particularly interested in “bridging” programs and building partnerships which are aimed at strengthening families.
Tom Tillapaugh, MA
Tom is the founder and administrator of the Denver Street School, founded in 1985, and President of the StreetSchool Network™, founded in 1996. An educator with a heart for the inner-city, he has spent nearly 30 years sharing the Street School Model. During that time, he has not only offered hundreds of Denver’s inner-city kids a second chance to earn their diplomas, but has helped to start Street Schools all over the nation. Tom received his Master’s degree from Oral Roberts University and has been awarded honorary doctorates from American Pathways University and Colorado Christian University.
Tillapaugh has had the opportunity to speak at White House summits and policy briefings on urban education and the drop-out epidemic and has spoken at the US Capitol at the Heritage Foundation’s Anti-Poverty Summit. In Colorado, he served on Congressman Bob Beauprez’ Education Policy Advisory Committee, has been nominated to Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who among American Teachers. Additionally the Street School Movement has been featured in Education Week, Newsweek, Philanthropy Journal and the U.S. Dept. of Education’s Education Innovator.
