Groups are powerful. Families are powerful. There are dynamics to navigate, weather at a family gathering, a formal treatment/support group or a gathering of persons with a particular intention or purpose. These dynamics can foster many elements that have the effect of drawing people into a culture of growth and stability, or not. We will take a look and begin to discuss and understand how we can foster, create, or participate in those dynamics in a way that influences stability, toxicity or change.

Objectives

You will walk away with information about:
  • the applicability of the type/style of leadership within the group or family,
  • roles and characteristics of family or group members,
  • the importance of the purposes and structure of the family or group gatherings,
  • culture and curative factors of family/group rules and values.

By looking through these lenses, this workshop will be an awesome experience in increasing your awareness of your own power and influences in your family or groups, as well as an awesome refresher for seasoned group therapists about facilitation and the power of corrective recapitulation of family of origin dynamics in groups, and working with transference and counter-transference issues more effectively and therapeutically.

Eligible for 6 hours continuing education credit.
