As a human services professional, you encounter experiences of grief and loss on a regular basis. To work with grief and loss can be daunting, but it is also one of the deepest ways in which we connect with our common humanity. In this class, we will explore the various types of grief, including a new Stage 6 in the stages of grief. We will review observed behaviors and characteristics of grief, so that you are better able to recognize grief in those you serve. You will be provided with a guide outlining how to effectively and compassionately communicate with a client who is grieving. The class will wrap up with a discussion of practices to offer to clients as they move forward in their life, in their own journey of grief and loss. This class is participative in nature and your own experiences and knowledge will add to the value to the class. Please do your best to arrange to take this class in an environment that is quiet and without distraction.
